Lower Abdominal Pain after Hysterectomy

Dear Ask The Doctor: I had a hysterectomy nearly 20 years ago. In the past month I have been having pain in my lower abdomen. Recently I find it hard to walk and the pain in my lower abdomen runs down to my legs. Honestly it feels as though my organs are dropping. Is it possible that this could be something related to the hysterectomy surgery that I had.
Dear Sandra: Many women experience abdominal pain after hysterectomy but most recover within a year. The most common cause of these abdominal pain are due to adhesions and endometriosis.
The adhesions are formed after surgery as th ebody heals after trauma or surgery. These adhesions may bind and restrict the movements of structures that were previously mobile. I would suggest that you consult your doctor to rule out adhesion and also other causes of pain abdomen. |
