Range of Motion after Spinal Fusion

Dear Ask The Doctor: I had a cervical decompression and fusion. Is it normal that my neck wont move any further than an inch in either direction?

Dear Mary: The surgical procedure you had restricts movement of the bones in the neck. It is not uncommon to have significantly reduced range of motion. With complete recovery, you may have more movement but it will not be as much as prior to surgery.
