Are there other ways to treat PCOS aside from pills?

Dear Ask The Doctor: What can I do about my pcos? My doctor gave me some med to help start my monthy cycle but with out them i cant start. What do I do Please help me Im begging you.

Dear Della:

There are a number of pills used for PCOS so I don’t want to guess what kind of pills is being prescribed to you. PCOS needs to be controlled that is why medications are needed. If your weight is more on the heavy side, try decreasing it and maintain a healthy weight, and you should also exercise regularly. This will help with the hormonal disturbance in PCOS and will also help regulate your monthly cycles. Birth control pills can also be used for PCOS but if your doctor prescribed you that certain pill, he/she must have a rationale behind it. Most of the time, lifestyle modification (decreasing weight, exercising) coupled with medications can dramatically improve PCOS. I do hope I have appeased your concern and take care always.
