PCOS and on Clomid but not getting Pregnant, Cause? |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi. i am 22 years old. i found out when i was 18 that i have PCOS. i was 85kg at that time. since than i have been trying to conceive but no success. doctor told me to loose weight and i did i went up to 65kg and since then i have been put on metformin. and i have already done 6 months of 50g clomid with no success what so ever. i am getting worried now that what could be the reason that i did not conceive. i had ovulation normal and my periods became clockwise. after 28 to 30 days. and on regular basis. only problem i had was painful mentsrual cycles which doctor said is due to medication and cysts. i have very minor cysts on right side but my left side is ok. can you tell me what factors could have caused no pregnancy during clomid? Dear Syeda: Clomiphen helps in PCOS by stimulating the ovary to release an egg. Clomiphen increase the production of the hormone FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) which is needed for the eggs to mature and also LH (luteinising hormone) which helps in the release of the egg. Clomiphen is successful in stimulating ovulation in 70% of cases. Out of the 70% who ovulate only 15-50% will become pregnant. The success rate of pregnancy is dependant on a number of factors. It includes the time in your cycle you have sex, your age and weight, and the speed and motility of your partner's sperm. I would advise you to continue with the treatment and if not successful consult your ob/gyn doctor regarding other options available including IVF. |
