Low grade fever following pneumonitis

Dear Ask The Doctor: My 10 y.o. son was diagnosed pneumonitis on June 6. He still has fever (99.8 or so). Is that normal or I should take him to be seen before the scheduled follow up. He is also taking antibiotic for a sinus infection. Thank you. Jessica.

Dear Clive: In my opinion, it would be fine to visit his doctor as per schedule, as 99.8 is a mild rise in temperature that may commonly occur following infection. This low grade temperature may wane off slowly in a few days. However, if the temperature rises to 102 or above, immediate treatment may be required.
