Toxic shock syndrome

Dear Ask The Doctor: Im wondering if a rash will appear and then disappear in a case of toxic shock syndrom...plz help me shelly

Dear Shelly:

I understand your concern about toxic shock syndrome. Certainly a particular kind of rash is part of the symptoms, a rash resembling sunburn particularly on your palms and soles that  after a week or so generally leads to peeling of the skin on your hands and feet plus fever, hypotension, vomiting and diarrhea.

This rare life-threatening bacterial infection has been most often associated with the use of superabsorbent tampons and occasionally with the use of contraceptive sponges. These signs and symptoms present suddenly, if you present them seek immediate evaluation.
