Dear Ask The Doctor: I have this rash on the sides of my legs next to my groin i have not slept with anyone in 1 year and it has been their for approx 2 months it itches all the time and i am not sure what it is its starting to get me a little worried as it has spread al little and gotten a bit bigger
Apparently, upon seeing the picture, what you have could be a fungal infection. Since it is in that area, it is commonly called jock itch (if its on the foot, its athlete’s foot). I saw that the border of the rash is reddish which is typical of fungal infection. Measures done to help with the itch includes using boxers instead of briefs (since tight, moist environments hasten its growth) and over the counter antihistamine pills or syrup (e.g. Benadryl). Do not apply creams or ointments without a doctor’s prescription because some of them may have steroids, which is contraindicated in fungal infection. Instead, see a doctor (or dermatologist) as soon as possible because you definitely need topical (creams or ointments) and/or oral antifungals. I hope this helps.
