Dear Ask The Doctor: I have a blackblue spot near my anus and one below my outer labia. No raised skin, no pain or itching and no discomfort when i touch or press on it. I noticed the one below my lips a few weeks ago and the one on my anus within the past week. Any idea what it might be or what doctor i should see, a dermatologist, gynacologist or my regular physician?
Dear Jane: I do understand your concern, however not all skin changes are caused by skin cancer. Based on what you've written. it is difficult for me to make a diagnosis. There are certain risk factors that increase the chances of development of skin cancer and include fair skin, age, excessive sun exposure, history of moles (nevi), precancerous skin lesions, family history of skin cancer and a weakened immune system. Make an appointment with your dermatologist/family doctor if you notice any changes to your skin that worry you. Your doctor will investigate your skin changes to determine a cause. |
