Champix and use in smoking cessation

Dear Ask The Doctor: I Used champix to quit smoking in 2008, and worked for a year, personal things happened and I am smoking again I was just wondering if I would be able to use champix again to quit

Dear Paul: You can resuse champix once again. Champix is Varneciline which is used instead of nicotine replacement methods like a patch or gum and has been proven to work as effectively. However I would like to also stress on the importance of joining support groups as well as other methods like setting a target date, informing friends and family, engaging in other activities other than smoking and also having close follow up with a physician in person as methods of smoking cessation. All the best.
