Sore throat and pain on swallowing

Dear Ask The Doctor: It hurts when I swallow, and it feels like my throat is swollen.. what is the quick remedy overnight?

You may try warm saline gargles and Advil (Ibuprofen) to relieve pain. Avoid sweets for now and drink more of cold water. However, I think it is still worth checking out by a doctor to make sure you don’t need antibiotics. If what you are having is strep throat, it also has long-term, serious complications.
