Dear Niko: Blood sugar levels should be adequately controlled before any surgical procedure. Fluctuation in the blood sugar levels can have devastating consequences during surgery that may go unrecognized and creating difficulty for patients emerging from anesthesia. 300 mg/dl is an extremely high value and surgery should not be performed until it can be brought down to an accepatable range.Such high levels are usually only found in persons with Diabetes Mellitus. |
