Untreated diabetes and high blood pressure |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: About 6 months ago my husband stopped taking his medications. High blood pressure, diabetes, high cholestrol, just to mention a few. Can you please tell me what to expect because he does not plan on going back on them or seeing a doctor. Dear Don: According to the diagnosis you provided and the fact that he does not treat his conditions for the last 6 months, complications such as Diabetic retinopathy or nephropathy might start to develop as early as a year after if his blood glucose levels are excessively increased as well as his blood pressure. I would certainly recommend him to get an evaluation and possible test for HBA1C which would tell how high his hemoglobin was for the last 3 months. |
