Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi, I've had this pain or discomfort in my groin now for a few days. It's sort of like a dull ache, feels a bit like I've been kicked, but I've had no contact or injuries in months down there. I have started exercising again like walking on uneven ground on coastal paths and started some weight lifting, too, but I'm a fit 20 year old who's trained much more extensively in the past. I can't pinpoint where the discomfort is? It's not painful as such, just sort of like a dull ache? I think it's coming from my scrotal area more than my abdomen, but it's hard to be sure either way? It's only really uncomfortable when I'm sitting, and when i'm walking or moving about etc I don't really notice it. I'm not sexual active. I have been up until a month ago, but only with one partner, and have had a sexual health check whilst with that partner only a few months ago, came back all clear. I have no past injuries or diseases and am not on medication. I'd really appreciate anyone's help on this please, as it's kind of worrying. Thankyou
Dear Giovanni: Since you've mentioned that there is no history of trauma, the cause of your scrotal pain could be due to orchitis of epididymitis. I would suggest to consult your doctor for examination and investigations like urinalysis and testicular ultrasound to determine the cause of pain. Treatment will depend on the cause. Both orchitis and epididymitis are treated with antibiotics. |
