Testicular Lumps and Cancer

Dear Ask The Doctor: I have a very small lump on both of my testicles in the same area towards the top. I have recently started to check my testicles so I don`t know if they have always been there. The left one has always been bigger than the right, and I have not noticed any sudden changes the last months/years. Should I see a doctor? Age 20

Dear Jo: Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in males between the ages of 15 and 35 years.  It usually presents as a lump in one testicle. Given what you have described I doubt you have testicular cancer. Nonetheless you should still see you doctor so that he may examine and order the appropriate tests.  More likely explanations of the lumps are that they are varicoceles (a benign collection of blood vessels).
