Dear Ask The Doctor: Dear Dr, I am 23 years old and almost 2 weeks ago I had just gotten out of the shower and was bent over drying my feet when my roommate kicked me in the testicles from behind and darn hard too. I hit the floor like a rock. They are still swollen and hurt like mad. I haven't been able to ejaculate since then although I remain hard most of the day and night. I have used heat and ice to no avail. Any suggestions?
Dear Caldwell: I do understand you concern about testicular trauma. It is not uncommon for boys and men to suffer minor episodes of scrotal trauma; only rarely does a severe testicular injury result. The spectrum of injuries can range from a hematocele (hematoma within the tunica vaginalis) to an intratesticular hematoma to disruption of the tunica albuginea causing testicular rupture. I would advise you to consult your doctor or a urologist. Evaluation of acute scrotal trauma requires a thorough history, followed by a detailed examination of the abdomen, testes, epididymis, cord, scrotal skin, and inguinal region. Color Doppler ultrasonography can accurately diagnose the extent of injury. Testicular rupture requires surgical repair. Lesser injuries are managed according to the clinical severity and often can be treated conservatively. |
