Dear Ask The Doctor: My son is 10 yrs old. He told me he bent over and his testical started hurting. He walked tenderly all day. That was five days ago. Today he told me his testical was swollen and sore. I looked at it and it is red and three or four times the size of the other one. It is Friday night and I was wondering if I should take him to the hospital or wait until Monday to take him to his pediatrition?
Dear Shelly: Testicular swelling in a 10 year old is most likely to be testicular torsion. This is a surgical emergency! He should be seen by a surgeon immediately and taken for exploratory surgery to salvage the testicle. If this condition goes untreated for more than 8 hrs the testicle could die mandating surgical removal. |
