Testicle Cancer or Strained Groin? |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I have a small lump on my left epydidymis. it is on the back top of my left testicle. I have noticed this there for probably about 10 years now. In the last week i have started to get some pain in that region. I am wondering if it is possible this could be cancerous? I also play alot of handball and i read that can cause a strained groin and that could be the cause of my pain also. Dear Ryan: In my opinion the lump seems less likely to be cancerous given the long period of 10 years now, without any symptoms or changes in the size of the lump. It may be an epidydimal cyst or a spermatocele based on its location, but an ultrasound would confirm the diagnosis. Also a clinical examination of the lump by your family doctor or if possible an urologist would surely help in the initial diagnosis. The pain may be due to the muscle strain related to the handball game and you may try gentle stretching of the groin muscles and ice or heat application. Oral anti-inflammatory medications (such as Ibuprofen) can help relieve symptoms of pain and also calm the inflammation.
