Progressive tiredness in a soccer player

Dear Ask The Doctor: My daughter is 15 years old and plays soccer at a high level. She already has been going to a chiropractor since she was 11 and has been on a nutrition program in the past. She doesn't eat any gluten because she is allergic and eats barely any sugar. She is constantly tight, sore, and in pain in her muscles and joints. She has had a lot of swelling and bruising lately after games. She has always been sore after games, but lately she can't even lift her legs. She is also always tired even though she sleeps 10-12 hours a day. Our chiropractor told us to have a blood test done that there might be something wrong with her thyroid. Could all of her symptoms be related to a problem with her thyroid, or is it something else?
Dear Kaitlin: I strongly recommend you to take your daughter to the specialist (rheumatologist) and have a comprehensive evaluation including lab test to rule out thyroid problems, muscle problems and once determined the cause of the symptoms proceed accordingly with the right treatment.
