What could this be?

Dear Ask The Doctor: For the past month ive had hot flashes, fever, dizziness, muscle aches,thirsty all the time, drowsiness,memory loss and lack of energy. I went to the doctor and I was told I could have hyperthyroid so im being tested for that and I go back on the 15th but I also take effexor xr for depression 150mg a day and recently on monday night I had a low fever 99.8 and I had bad chills and in the morn my fever rose to 100.2 so i tool tylenol and it went down but later i had a bad hot flash so I guess my question is does anyone have an opinon on what it might be thats wrong with me and if its more then likely my thyroid?

Dear Heidi: It can be very anxiety provoking waiting for test results.  When symptoms are as diverse as yours and affect different parts of the body, hormonal causes are common. I agree with your doctor's initial testing and would wait for your test results before considering other options.  It is likely your doctor ordered additional blood work to rule out other non thyroid causes.
