Diazepam as an antidepressant.

Dear Ask The Doctor: Can diazepam be used as an antidepressant?

Dear John: No diazepam cannot be used as an antdepressant. Diazepam is a benzodiazepine and is used in cases of anxiety, seizures of muscle spasms. Usage of diazepam can lead to addiction. Side effects include confusion, fatigue, excitability, problems in balancing, nausea, vomiting, decreased sleep.
