Dear Ask The Doctor: I was searching figured it might be a yeast infection but at the same time very unsure. Vaginal area is very itchy and red and sore. I have a white cakey discharge that at one point was just think and kinda gooey. It all started after I had finished taking my antibiotics and i had heard that it could have caused it. IF it is a yeast infection what should i do since i cant afford to see a doctor about it.
Dear Beylan: I do understand your concern for a yeast infection. You can treat most yeast infections with an over-the-counter antifungal cream such as clotrimazole which goes by the brand names Lotrimin and Canestan. Other common OTC antifungal creams include the brand names Monistat 1 (tioconazole), Tinactin (tolnaftate) and Lamisil. If the treatment does not work I would suggest that you see your health care provider for a microscopy and culture of the discharge and appropriate medication as necessary. |
