Tilting to the Right when walking

Dear Ask The Doctor: What could cause me to tilt to the right? Since I woke up this morning, I have had trouble maintaining my balance. I am ok when standing still or once I have started walking, but when I start, turn, or stop, get up or sit down, I start listing to the right. I have to keep grabbing things to keep from falling. I do not feel dizzy, but I do feel heavier on that side.

Dear Heather:

Problems with abnormal gait and balance might need to be study deeply and with more detail to rule out the exact cause due to the numerous factors that might be originating it.

In the majority of cases, problems in your inner ear which helps the body know where it is in relationship to gravity and according to your description of the problem, I would suggest you to consult your primary care provider for a more detailed examination including the ear to rule out the exact diagnosis. Sometimes insignificant causes such as serum impaction or a recent flu might alter the balance. I wish you a prompt recovery.
