Vertigo

Dear Ask The Doctor: Dear doctor, last night i came home from work n suddenly experienced my head spin with vomiting and blacking out of the vision. The doctor who came home to see me said after consultation that they were symptoms of vertigo and prescribed vertin (8mg), rantac 150, and Merck. He also prescribed ondem for vomitting. My question is whether this kind of vertigo is serious and persistent? Is there are permanent cure for it? I work as an admin person and have to constantly work on the computer. I also feel stressed out quite often due to work pressure and have a tendency towards asthma. From the past few days I have also been having very bad cold and cough.

Dear Leena: All kinds of vertigo can be serious and persistent. Only time will tell. My only advice again is to make sure you listen to your doctor about taking the medications he/she has prescribed and definitely trying to reduce the stress in your life. Stress can bring upon vertigo many times, so really try and figure out a way to releive that pressure you feel.
