Dear Ask The Doctor: For the past year I've suffered with benign vertigo which gave me nauSea and dizziness. Due to this Panic attacks and anxiety attacks were induced and obviously effected my life. I have recently joined a gym, seeing as I havnt felt up to working out the past year. I have done a Full workout and that night Felt dizzy, not an intense dizziness but s little bout and it's worried me a little. I've been told that exercise should help me rather than bring the vertigo back? Can using gym cardio machines bring back my vertigo?
Dear Jennifer: Benign paroxysmal vertigo occurs due to a problem and involvement of the inner ear apparatus. From the symptoms you are describing it seems like it could be your vertigo acting up again or it just could be the fact that since you have worked out after a long time your body is not used to it and the symptoms may have been transitional. Try to increase your work out slowly and steadily and observe for similar occurences of symptoms. If they do reoccur or get worse then this needs to be evaluated further.During exercise more so the bony structures in the inner ear can undergo repositioning which can lead to exacebation of the symptoms so you need to be careful about what type f exercises you are performing. I would also advice you to get rechecked for any wax build up which can also lead to these symptoms. All the best. |
