Should I worry about severe headaches and vertigo?

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi, I have been feeling very ill since Monday, getting sick about 3 or 4 times a day, I have a constant headache that feels like my brain is being squeezed, I'm also very dizzy, my eyes are sore and I'm getting coldsores too, have you any idea what this might be, is it virtigo? Thanks.

Dear Louise: Vertigo is a condition wherein the dizziness is aggravated when a person moves. The usual complaint is the surroundings looks like it is turning around you when you try to move your head. I strongly suggest you consult a doctor promptly because brain infections can present with severe headaches, also with dizziness, fever, etc. A complete physical and neurologic exam together with blood tests and other procedures can help with the diagnosis. It is always better to be safe than sorry. I hope this helps.
