Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello! I am 34yrs old, having pain in the arm, hand, palm, fingers and feet. I have pain when use them!Since two days, my fingers and toes are becoming blue, at rest(within 4-5 minutes). it will change to normal if I move them. I don't cross my legs and it is NOT changing with the cold weather or stress. For example, like right now as I typing, i am not using much of my left hand, it is bluish and in both my feet, the toes are blue. What should I do next--i saw one neuro, did cervical mri and came back as minimal degenerative disk with no stenosis. THANKS IN ADVANCE.
Dear SR: Your symptoms may be caused by Raynaud's phenomenon. This is a rare disorder that affects the arteries marked by brief episodes narrowing of the blood vessels causing your fingers and toes to turn blue. The cause of Raynaud's is not known though it may be linked to diseases and conditions that damage the nerves that control the arteries in the hands and feet eg. lupus and scleroderma. Treatment include avoiding cold temperatures, emotional stress, workplace or recreational factors, and contact with certain chemicals or medicines and smoking. Medicines used to treat Raynaud's include calcium channel blockers, alpha blockers, prescription skin creams, and ACE inhibitors. |
