Dear Ask The Doctor: I have wrist and thumb pain. It hurts to put any kind of pressure on anything with any finger. It is swollen around the base of my thumb and between my thumb and index finger. It hurts to close my hand. I have decreased grip strength. Can you tell me what's wrong?
Dear Stephanie: Palm pain can result from damage or injury to any of the structures in your palm, including bones, joints, tendons, nerves, muscles, blood vessels, connective tissue, or skin. If rest, ice packs and pain-killers don't improve your symptoms, you will need further evaluation by your doctor. |
