Dear Ask The Doctor: This summer I started having really bad neck and back of head pains. I went to the doctor and they prescribed me muscle relaxers. The pains turned into shooting pains all through the back and sides of my heads. A Chiropractor told me I had a bad neck curve and it was causing the pain. I started getting pains by my temples and near my ears and was told I probably had TMD. I started getting bad face pains. One day I had head pain and a really painful feeling in my inner thigh and I was laying on the floor crying so my boyfriend took me to the ER. They said I had a sinus infection and prescribed me antibiotics and painkillers.A week later I ended up back at the ER and they did a CAT scan on my head, said they didnt see anything so, most likely there was nothing wrong with my head and gave me more painkillers. I now have throbbing pains in my inner thighs and the back of my thighs, in my uper left arm and sharp shooting pains in my hands, fingers, toes and feet. As well as throbbing pains in my left side, left lower back, and frequent chest pain, nausea, and i think heartburn. I am in college and had to withdraw from the semester. I cannot go a day without being in pain. I cannot go to any doctor besides the health center at my school and they have just flat out told me they dont know whats wrong with me a couple of times. I don't take my painkillers, they just make me sick. This sudden ambush of constant pains all over my body is making my life pretty miserable and affecting my grades. Can you give me an idea of what could possibly be wrong with me. I dont know where to start trying to figure it out.
Dear Laura: According to your description, your age and the chronology of the events, I strongly recommend you to get an appointment with your doctor to rule out possible vitamin deficiencies (Vitamin B12), nerve compressions at the level of the spine, problems with the peripheral nerves of hands and feet, and other metabolic causes as problems with the Thyroid gland and Diabetes. All these mentioned above may cause the symptoms that you described and also a TMD. |
