Dear Ask The Doctor: I found out a few months ago i need a hip replacement i am 58 i can't have it done right away i had a cortizone shot did not help any i am in a lot of pain from thigh to knee and sometimes in shin and calf i can hardly put my sock on in morning and sleeping is a nightmare is there any thing i can do to help until i can have replacement done. i do not want to take powerful pain killers that may be addictive but ibuprophen does not help much. thank you for any help.
Dear Bill: The definitive solution to your problem will be the hip replacement, but in the meantime you should not strain the hip or put excessive stress on the joint. You can control the pain taking ant-inflammatory medication and with physical therapy. |
