Dear Ask The Doctor: I am a 35 year old woman 4'11 and 120lbs. The problem that I have is that I can only wear tennies shoes for my feet and back to be pain free. I am on my feet al day with the work that I do. The problem I have with this is that my feet sweat in my shoes so bad that at the end of the day my socks are wet and the underneath of my toes are so sore from being wet for four or five hours that they are painful to the touch. I have tried foot powders, athletes foot sprays, and many other remedies and none have worked. I would like to know if you could tell me anything that might relieve my foot pain.
Dear Christy:
The problem that you described often is caused by wearing poor fitting shoes, fallen arches (flat feet), and plantar fasciitis or overweight, these are the 4 most common causes of foot pain in absence of a trauma antecedent. Try to wear cushioned footwear, avoid narrow-toe shoes and high heels, if you exercise do a warm up before with an adequate stretch, avoid putting excessive strain on your feet and lose weight if you need it. You also may take anti inflammatory medication (“Aleve”, “Motrin”) and see if they work relieving the pain. If you try all of the above and poor improvement is noted, then I suggest you a consultation with a specialist (podiatrist) to determine also the cause of the excessive sweating. |
