Dear Ask The Doctor: Im having sharp pains in my upper chest everytime i try to swallow or drink
Dear Abdul: The brown pump that you take for your asthma most probably contains beclomethasone (a corticosteroid). A very common side effect of this drug is oral thrush, which may explain your symptoms of pain during swallowing.
Treatment includes i) rinsing your mouth after you take the inhaler. ii) Mouth rinses with nystatin or oral diflucan (fluconazole). iii) Use of spacer and iv) avoid smoking. |
