Severe Coccix pain radiated to the genital area

Dear Ask The Doctor: I have severe pain from my coxyc all the down my crack, including my testicles and above my penis, have not slept all night, toilet is a false alarm and hurts when i break wind, i am in pain. what can i take to get some relief

Dear Derek: If you are experiencing pain during or after sitting, the level of pain depending on how long you sit. This is the main problem caused by coccydynia (coccix pain). How painful it is also depends on the design of the chair and the padding. When the joint between the sacrum and coccyx is unstable,  the coccyx can be pushed out of place when you put pressure on it by sitting or lying. When you sit on a hard surface, most of your weight is taken on your ‘sit-bones’ (ischial tuberosities), the hard bits at the bottom of your pelvis. But when you sit on a soft surface, the foam rubber pushes up between the bones, increasing the pressure inside you and pushing the coccyx out of place. The increased pain and sensitivity caused by having to sit for a long period may continue for days afterwards. The coccyx serves as somewhat of a weight-bearing structure when a person is seated and bears more weight when the seated person is leaning backward; therefore, many patients with coccyx pain sit leaning forward. The conservative treatment includes: Myofascial release techniques (this is a type of deep massage) and local pain control modalities (TENS, local heat, anti-inflammatory medications). Injection with corticosteroids may be helpful in cases of focal inflammation at the sacrococcygeal joint (ex.: after local trauma and perhaps with degenerative changes at this site). The healing time is different for each particular patient. On the other hand, I recommend you a consultation with a Spine specialist to determine for sure the cause of your coccigodinia and rule out a possible nerve compression in the lower back in the view that you described a radiation of the pain to the genital area.
