Dear Ask The Doctor: I got an IUD put in last May and had it taken out a few weeks later due to lots of pain. Since then i get really bad pain in my cervix and uterus areas. It gets worse when I have a full bladder or have intercourse. When I do urinate i get a bad stabbing pain that causes me to feel like I have to push. It is not a UTI as I have been tested for this as well as tested for cysts.
Dear Ashley: Upon IUD removal, residual effects on the uterus may still be present. It may take awhile, maybe a few months, after IUD removal before the hormonal effects on the uterus are reversed. Menstrual irregularities and hormonal effects (breast tenderness) may be observed as the body is readjusting. Other cause of cervical and uterine pain could be due to pelvic inflammatory disease, vaginitis or cystitis. I would suggest that you see your health-care provider for a complete physical examination, blood-work, urinalysis and a lower abdominal ultrasound. |
