Dear Ask The Doctor: I'm getting sharp burning pains in palm of hand and also in fingers, thumb, index, middle these sharp burning pains will stop then a tingling will start. i keep hand elevated all day and night. which now elbow needs a rest.i have been waking up from a shock a few times riding up to past elbow. i can deal with the tingling its just annoying. is there anything to help ease the burning pains. i have been prescribed. oxycodone 5mg (no help) plus gave me nausea. hydromorphone hcl 2mg .helped me sleep at first taking 6mg every 3 hours. had surgery the 21st of march this year. now all these plus ibuprofen 800mg acetaminophen-cod question is. what would be a better choice of pain relief for these symptoms?
Dear Michael: On March 21st you had a tendon repair surgery, because the hand is a very sensitive part of the body, you may experience severe pain for several days after surgery, with or without some other symptoms as numbness and tingling, these may disappear with time. Aftercare following hand surgery may include one or more of the following, depending on the specific procedure: oral painkilling medications; anti-inflammatory medications; splinting; traction; special dressings to reduce swelling and heat or massage therapy. Exercise therapy is an important part of aftercare for most who are recovering from hand surgery. A rehabilitation hand specialist will show you exercises for the hand, instruct you in proper wound care, massage the hand and wrist, and perform an ongoing assessment of your recovery of strength and range of motion in the hand. |
