Painful joints. Early signs of problems?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I am 23 years old and often get painful joints. Currently it is mainly my ankles, sometimes my knees. Sometimes I get painful shoulder blades aswell but this may be due to work with lots of manual handling. I do not necessarily get this pain when excersing but more often when I am resting. I do not believe it to be anything serious but I have always had a very limited diet and worry that I have missed out or am missing out on necessary vitamins etc, that are needed for strong healthy joints. Is there anything you can reccomend and should I be concerned that these pains are the early signs of problems? Thankyou for your time.
Dear Kate: The Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (in children) and Rheumatoid Arthritis (in adults) are part of a wide array of immunological disorders, and in the view of the symptoms that you described: painful ankles, knees, shoulders; the suggested strategy would be the assessment by a Rheumatologist and get lab tests done to rule out RA or any other type of autoimmune disease affecting your joints. the other possibility is that you mentioned that you have to do "lots of manual handling" so it would be important to rule out Repetitive Stress injuries or oveuse syndrome.. |
