Pain after Surgery not healing still

Dear Ask The Doctor: I'm having pain in the tract where I had a surgical drain 2 weeks ago as well as around the surgical site. The dr's concerned since this is the second surgery and it should be healing by now. I had a "lipoma" removed that turned out to be fat necrosis and scar tissue (2 by 5 in) on the right belt line. How are we going to fix this? I'm so confused and feel like this will never end! Please help! I can provide a more detailed medical history if helpful. Thanks
Dear Michelle: It is unfortunate that you having problems following your surgery. The most likely explanation for your current symptoms is an infection at the operation site. This would explain your pain and lack of healing two weeks after surgery. The presence of an infection can be confirmed by a sterile swab of the wound. This swab can then be sent to lab to identify the bacteria causing the infection. Antibiotics can be started after the swab is taken. I urge you to discuss this possibility with your surgeon if you have not already done so. |
