Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi, I went to bed feeling fine and woke up at 6:30 AM with severe neck, shoulder and arm pain on my left side. Also, my arm feels a little weaker then normal. I was sleeping on a double high air bed that has a hole in it and it was half way deflated this morning. Have a feather pillow. I also was sleeping on my right side and maybe some on my belly, not on my left side. I took Advil and it did nothing for the pain. Could I have slept wrong? I am 22 years old, any chance it could be a herniated disk? Thank you
Dear J.L.: The symptoms that you have described suggests that the cause may be due to a musculo-skeletal strain caused by the deflated air bed. I would suggest to continue with advil and apply warm compress on the effected side. The chance of a herniated disk is minimal.
If you feel that the pain has not subsided after a week, or you have numbness and tingling sensation in your legs, you may have to consult your doctor. |
