Dear Ask The Doctor: I have a lump underneath my jaw that i can feel on the bottom of my mouth and near the back of the tongue it causes pain when i eat and apply pressure. It has been like this for four days
Dear Michael: The lump could either be due to a swelling of the cervical lymph node or parotid gland. The swelling may be due to an infection of the local surrounding tissue. If the symptoms are not severe, anti-inflammatory medications will help. Any fever, increase in size of the lump or increasing tenderness needs a visit to the doctor to rule out an abscess. |
