Constant Headache for the past 3 weeks. |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I have had a horrible headache and bad neck paind for 3 weeks now and yesterday I hit my forehead really hard and now my neck is even worse. I have gone to the hospital 3 days ago and they did a lumbar puncture. And everything was clear but it hurts so much worse. Dear Anna: Headaches are a difficult entity to diagnose and treat because of the enumerable different diagnosis. The most common cause of primary headaches are tension type headaches and migraines. Headaches may also signify an underlying pathology like a cervical spine disorder, arteritis, av malformations. You have mentioned that a lumbar puncture was done which was negative, ruling out any infection of the brain. Some of the general measures you can take for headaches are to eliminate any stress, avoid smoking, coffee, alcohol, relaxation therapy, yoga. Analgesics may be required if the pain does not subside. You may also consult you doctor about the use of Triptans, Tricyclic anti-deprassants and SSRIs for your headaches.
