Dear Ask The Doctor: I have soreness in my right arm that runs from just under my arm pit, down the under part of my arm to the inside of my elbow, to the under side of my lower arm, and then over the top of my lower arm. It has been sore for a week and I have done no exercises (or other injury ie a fall) to cause muscle strain. The soreness on the top part of my lower arm has a small lump, and red streak. I have a strange purple mark under my arm just above my elbow, and my neck is stiff on my right side. no fever, but headache. Should I see a doctor or is it just a pulled muscle?
Dear Tracy: Though the pain in your arm could most probably be due to a pulled muscle or trauma to the area, I would suggest you to consult your physician. Any pain or soreness over the arm/shoulder could be the sign of myocardial infarction and diagnosis is essential especially in the elderly. |
