Dear Ask The Doctor: My ESR is 1 hr 40, 2nd hour 72. My age 46 yrs. Dentists told i need flap surgery since gums are infected. My problem of continuous sneezing all the day makes me suffer once in a week. The same goes off next day after anti-allergy tablets are used. Now my question is that is rise of my ESR is duen to gums infection??
Dear Basha: Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is a good indicator of presence of inflammation in the body. An elevated ESR may indicate infections, autoimmune disorders (SLE and rheumatoid arthritis), kidney and thyroid problems and cancer. A chronic high ESR level may need to be evaluated for underlying diseases. |
