Dear Ask The Doctor: 2 and a half days ago i bit my lip and shortly after i began to feel very nautious. then i got very cold. i discovered i had a fever. the next morning i still had a fever and i went to the store to get something to help break it. that morning i also discovered that my bottom lip was sore and looked a bit white and was swolen. later that night my fever was still going but after some sleep that night it broke. the following day, the fever was back along with the feeling of vomiting any moment. i tried using some peroxside to help kill the infection but ive had no result. i dont have the money for a doctor, could you give me any advice on how to get better?
Dear Crystal: From the pictures, it definitely looks that you have a bacterial infection of the lower lip. This explains why you are having fever and also the swelling. I would definitely advise an antibiotic in your case (preferably amoxicillin), the usual dosage is 500mg orally 3 times for 7-14 days, depending on the infection. Avoid hot beverages and foods and anything spicy. You may also take painrelievers/NSAIDS like advil or motrin to reduce the pain and inflammation.
