Dear Ask The Doctor: I have a cut on my stomach about an inch long. it was quite deep but it seemed to knit together a little so didnt go to the hospital for stitches or glue etc... it has scabbed now, but the scab is yellowy, and all around the scab it is deep red. it is very sore to touch and very uncomfortable. is this infected or is this just healing naturally?
Dear Chloe: A minor cut or lacteration should heal without any complications. However, since you`ve mentioned that the cut was deep, the chances of infection and poor would healing is increased. Signs of an infection include pus discharge, swelling and redness of the surrounding skin, fever and pain. I would definitely advise going to the ER or see a doctor for an examination. You may require antibiotics, anti inflammatory medication and draining of pus collection, if present. |
