Ingorwn Toenail Infection

Dear Ask The Doctor: I have an ingrown toenail, and like it does, there's a pus bubble formed, there's now a black lining around the pus bubble. What I'm not sure about is, if this is just normal bleeding under the skin, or, if this is a sign of an infection that I should consult my Primary Care Physician about. Please see attached photo
Dear William: There is a risk that your ingrown toenail has become infected and may need removal. Since you've mentioned about the formation of a pus collection that is now turning black, I would advise that you see a surgeon. Your doctor may need to trim or remove a portion of the ingrown toenail. Additionally topic and oral antibiotics may be also required due to possible infection. I hope this helps, take care. |
