recurrent Lymph node swelling and Positive ESR / CRP |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I have been having reoccurring swollen left neck lymph node which is immediately accompanied by a fever, duration is about 5 days. It goes away on its own and comes back with the same symptoms every 5 weeks or so. I have taken a number of tests and other than an elevated ESR and C-Reactive protein everything else came back normal. I took C-Scan of the neck and sinus and all came back normal, i also took a chest x ray which also came back normal. Please provide any guidance you can this has been a reoccurring issue for the last few months. Dear Rita: I realize how concerned you are about your recurrent lymph node inflammation. This could be common sign of a viral or bacterial infection; however it may also occur in more complicated conditions such as chronic inflammatory conditions like arthritis, Sjogren’s syndrome that might cause inflammation of your salivary glands which may be confused with a lymph node and other related conditions. A Positive ESR and CRP only tells us that inflammation is present in your body, I would suggest you to consult a Rheumatologist to rule out these possibilities, he might ask for more detailed studies such as special X-ray of your salivary glands, and antibodies. I wish you the best.
