LOWER INTESTINAL PAIN |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I have been experiencing intestinal pain below the belly button, all along.Sometimes the pain come from one area, lower left quadrant. I have a lot of discomfort after a bowel movement and most of the times after eating. Eating sweets seems to aggravate the problem. I have 1-2 bowel movements a day. I do not consume any dairy. I had a CBC blood test, H. pylori test, stool test for parasites and blood and an abdominal ultrasound. All results were okay but my floral count was low. Discomfort and pain is there almost 24-7. I have tried maalox, laxative, gas-x, peptobismal and currently taking florastor. None which is really helping me. Could there be some kind of infection or pancreas problem? Any suggestion would be really helpful and grateful. Thank you. Dear Chase: I understand how worried you are about your lower abdominal pain. Since they ruled out possible gastritis and other more sever conditions such as peptic ulcer, there is a positive find in your tests, your low natural flora. However since you are already taking probiotics, these should have taken care of the problem by now if it was caused by an altered digestion due to abnormal flora. According to the characteristics of your symptoms and the location of the pain, in my opinion this could be caused by Gas accumulated in your colon especially due to the relation to sweets. However I would also suggest you to have a Gynecologist consultation to rule out other possibilities such as inflammation of your adnexa which might confuse your symptoms. I wish you the best.
