Blood and Mucous in Stool for quite some time

Dear Ask The Doctor: I am 15 and CONSTANTLY pass Large amounts of mucus in my stool,, it is even visible covering my stool in the toilet. I am healthy. 15 yr old atheltic male. and have had this problem for a year but tonight i saw patches of blood as well as last week i did. I dont have any abdominal pain or anything. I eat normally no excessive junk but no Excessive healthy food eitheir. The mucus is even on the toilet paper when i "wipe" and its brown ish yellow and very rarely is it clear. But this past month ive noticed blood... What is this? My past tests i have had were a CBC and Hemoglobin Blood Tests and i have had urine tests in past as well all came back normal however i was sick with sinus infection and after a week and a half my monocytes were STILL at 15.7.... Dont know if this is any concern .. Please Help. Thanks!

Dear Garrett: Blood and mucus in stool commonly results from parasitic infection which is usually contracted from contaminated food or water. A laboratory assessment of the stool sample would help confirm the diagnosis. You should visit your family doctor, who may prescribe some antibiotics(metronidazole) to control the infection. Eating a well-balanced diet with lots of fiber, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, limit dairy foods, sugar, and  fat may also help reduce your symptoms.
