Cleocin and Blood Platelet Counts

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi. I have been prescribed cleocin for an ingrown hair. The ingrown hair has completely resolved and I have 2 tablets left. I am about to have a blood test for platlet count because of upcoming surgery, but I am worried that having this drug in my system will make the blood platlet count decrease. Can Cleocin decrease your blood platlet count and if it does, how long until it recovers? How long should I wait after the tablets to get the test? Surgery id 5 weeks away. Thankyou.
Dear Karen: You should complete the prescribed dose schedule of cleocin for the complete removal of the infection or else the infection may not be cured and may reappear. Cleocin does not have any significant effects on the platelet countsas such, and so in my opinion, you may not wait for its effects to wear off in order to go for a blood test. |
