Rabbies Infection from food with cat's saliva

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi, I was eating lunch yesterday when my aunt's domestic cat walked in(probably all wet from the heavy rain). It made some swishing motion to dry itself. I was uncertain if it was rain or its saliva that landed on my plate. Will i get rabies from cat's saliva. I understand that it might belong to the contamination of mucuos membranes. I had preexposure shots for category2 last february 2010, then another preexposure shots after a dead rabbid patient came in the ER last September. Im currently an unemployed nurse. Please do answer me.

Dear Kate: It is highly unlikely to contract rabies in the way you mentioned above. you need active exposure to mucous membranes for the transmission. Moreover since you have had preexposure shots last year I wouldnt worry about it. All the best.
