Dear Ask The Doctor: I just went to the emergency room for an absess tooth and got prescribed antibiotics, how long will it take for the medicine to work?
Dear Gabe: Antibiotics may start to work within almost an hour of ingestion of the medication. However, the positive effects may be appreciated only after significant action of the medication has been achieved, probably after a few doses of the prescribed treatment has been ingested.
